Can we chose different massage treatments in the same room?
Yes. You can chose two different types of massage treatments; however, they will need to be for the same length of time if they are to be done in the same room.
Facial Cupping
What are the benefits of Facial Cupping?
A Facial Cupping treatment increases circulation to your face, reduces wrinkles & firms skin. This is also great for treating those who suffer from sinus and TMJ issues. Facial Cupping results are accumulative. We recommend a minimum of 6-12 consecutive treatments (1-2 times per week) to start. Once achieved, the desired results can be maintained with a treatment every 1-2 months.
Can men get a facial cupping?
Yes. However, men will need to be clean shaven. A mustache is fine, but the rest of the face will need to be freshly shaven.
Will I mark up like body cupping?
No. The cups used for facial cupping are smaller and are in constant motion so they will not leave marks on the face.
Does Facial Cupping hurt?
No. Clients have mentioned they are pleasantly suprised by how relaxing the facial cupping is.
Fascial Stretching
What is FST?
FST is short for Fascial Strecth Therapy. Fascia is fibrous connective tissue that wraps and supports muscles, bones, tendons, ligaments, organs, nerves-pretty much everything. Fascia stretching is said to give you a feeling of deep relaxation and rejuvenation that no other regular Swedish massage could ever do. The technique called Fascial Stretch Therapy was developed by Ann Frederick, the first "flexibility specialist" to work with athletes at the Olympics, and it aims to improve every aspect of athletic performance and recovery.
Is FST painful?
What are the benefits for FST?
What should I wear to my FST appointment?
Unlike traditional massage therapy, we do not use sheets on our table. Please wear athletic-type clothing that you can move in and the therapist can access skin to treat soft tissue, as necessary. Ideal clothing includes stretchy athletic wear such as leggings, shorts, t-shirts, tank tops, sports bras, etc. Tight fitting spandex shorts are great, but please do not wear loose fitting short-shorts.
NMT
What is NMT?
Neuromuscular Massage Therapy, or NMT, is a type of massage geared toward pain relief. It aims to help relieve pain from past injuries, trigger points, nerve compression, or postural imbalances. Instead of long flowing strokes normally associated with massage, NMT is often firm pressure held in specific areas to release muscle tension or trigger points.
How is NMT different from deep tissue massage?
While NMT uses deep tissue techniques, it goes further than a deep tissue massage. The therapist may use elbow, knuckles, or specialized tools to work through trigger points and adhesions. Areas of pain will be addressed as groups of muscles and work through to provide postural balance. Specialized stretching may be done toward the end of the massage to help reset the neurological pathways of the pain cycle.
Is NMT painful?
While the painful areas worked on might feel uncomfortable at times, NMT should never feel painful. The sustained pressure used in NMT might be uncomfortable at first, but that should quickly ease. Always let your therapist know if the pressure needs to be lighter. We would rather go slower than to cause more pain.
What are trigger points?
Trigger points are defined as focal, hyperirritable spots in tight muscles which produce pain locally and also a referral pattern of pain, especially when stimulated or irritated. Oftentimes these are the “knots” that people feel and complain about having.
What areas are worked in a typical NMT session?
Due to the thorough work on NMT and the way of trying to break through right muscle fibers, it is better to have a problem area or two on which to focus for the whole session instead of a full body massage. This will allow the time to release these painful areas in a way that is comfortable for you.
Is deep pressure required for NMT?
No. We need to have a firm enough pressure to release trigger points. Often, on a pressure scale of 1(no pressure) and 10(deep pressure), a pressure of 4 will be best at letting the body release the trigger point and the areas of tension, however lighter pressure can always be used. You as the client decides what pressure is right for you.
Why should I choose a NMT massage?
If you struggle with chronic pain, have referral pain into certain areas, or you have tight areas that never seem to go away, then NMT might be able to give you the relief you need.
Will I be sore afterwards?
What to Expect?
What should I expect during my first massage therapy visit?
Once your first appointment is booked, you will be required to fill out our client intake form via online beforehand or in the office (be sure to 10 minutes early if doing so in the office).
Do I have to be completely undressed?
You should undress to the level you are comfortable. For a full body massage, most get completely undressed. However, if you are more comfortable during the session if you leave your underwear on, that is fine. The therapist will give you privacy to undress and get comfortable on the table.
What do I do during a massage treatment?
Make yourself comfortable. If your therapist wants you to adjust your position, she/he will either move you or will ask you to move what is needed. Otherwise, change your position anytime to make yourself more comfortable.
Will the massage hurt?
This depends on the type of massage and the depth of the strokes. A light, relaxing massage that doesn't probe very deep into the muscles, shouldn't hurt. With that being said, there is a 'feels good' hurt, and an 'ouch, stop it' hurt. A good massage, even a really deep tissue massage, should always stay in the 'feels good' hurt range.
How will I feel after my massage treatment?
Most people feel very relaxed. Some experience a significant decrease or freedom from long-term aches and pains. Many feel slowed down for a short period of time and then notice an increase of energy, heightened awareness, and increased productivity which can last for days.
How often should I get a massage?
This can vary from person to person. If you are just looking for occasional relaxation, then a session every 3-6 weeks may be fine for you.
When should I not get a massage?
There are few conditions which would prevent you from enjoying a massage. You should not book a massage if you have a fever, cold/flu, or contagious skin infection. That's it.
Do I need to arrive early to my appointment?
Yes. We ask that you arrive 5 minutes early to have time to speak with your therapist about any change in recent health issues, to use the restroom before massage, and/or to complete any necessary paperwork.
